For regions completely lacking suitable topography or water, Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) serves as a vital alternative. CAES stores energy by compressing air into underground caverns. While it does not use water, it fulfills a similar role in balancing the grid. These combined advancements ensure that energy storage remains possible even in geographically challenging environments.
