The quickest way to record your screen on a Mac is by using the built in Screenshot toolbar. If you are running macOS Mojave 10.14 or later, simply press Shift + Command + 5 on your keyboard to open the recording options instantly.
Once the toolbar appears, you can choose to record the entire screen, a selected window, or a specific portion of your display by dragging the borders. Before you start, click on the Options menu to customize your settings. You can enable your microphone for audio, show mouse clicks to make tutorials clearer, set a timer, or change the destination where your video is saved.
If you prefer using an application, you can also use QuickTime Player. Open the app, select File from the top menu, and choose New Screen Recording. This method provides similar functionality for capturing your display. Once you are finished recording, click the Stop button in the menu bar to save your file. These built in tools are efficient and do not require any third party software for standard screen captures.
