Even though the Andromeda Galaxy and our Milky Way both look like beautiful spiral galaxies, they are actually quite different in how they create new stars. The Milky Way is currently much more active. It is like a busy factory that constantly produces new stars at a steady pace.
In contrast, the Andromeda Galaxy is in a much quieter phase. While it has plenty of gas and dust to work with, its rate of star formation is significantly lower than ours. Astronomers have observed that the Milky Way produces roughly one to two new sun-sized stars every year, whereas Andromeda is much more sluggish in this process.
This difference happens because the internal dynamics of a galaxy, such as how gas clouds move and compress, determine how fast stars are born. Even though they share a similar spiral shape, the actual density and temperature of the gas within each galaxy play a huge role.
