Creating albums in the Photos app on Mac is a simple way to organize your photos and videos by events, people, or themes. You can create an empty album by opening the Photos app and selecting File then New Album. Alternatively, you can hover over Albums in the sidebar and click the plus (+) icon next to My Albums to create a new album or folder.
If you want to build an album from specific images, first select the photos you wish to include. Then, you can select File and choose New Album with Selection. You can also right-click or Control-click a selected photo and choose Add To then New Album. Once the album is created, type a name for it in the sidebar and press Return.
For more advanced organization, you can use Smart Albums. By selecting File and then New Smart Album, you can set specific criteria such as date or photo type to automatically gather media. Note that Smart Albums are only available on the Mac and will not appear on iPhone or iPad. If you use iCloud Photo Library, your created albums will sync across your other Apple devices.
